Day 52 - Last full day in Ohio
Day 52 - Cleveland to Conneaut, OH - 87 miles - 1434 feet of elevation gain
In case you were wondering if logging lots of miles keeps you from failing on your bike, the answer is no. What does happen is you build habits and they should not be challenged. Like the one where you always unclip your left foot first, don’t try to change it! You will fall! Trust me, I tried to switch it up and boom, down I went!
Our morning roll took us through the burbs of Cleveland and then into the downtown area. It was good timing to hit the city on a weekend, because definitely less traffic. I don’t mind riding in the cities, but some do. It was absolutely a way to wake up the body, because you can’t sleep through traffic lights, road changes, and manhole covers. Once through the city we passed the Browns stadium and again rolled by the Rock n’Roll Hall of Fame. We got to be on a trail for a short time before our route took us north along Lake Erie.
The weather was perfect for riding. We had a slight headwind, but that didn’t stop us from rolling at a good clip. There was more elevation changes than the last few days. Tomorrow we head to PA, so we know the hills are coming. The roads today were also good for biking. Most were back roads so the traffic wasn’t bad. It was an all around good day. At our lunch break around mile 58, the boys played a 4-on-4 basketball game.
We are back in small town America. We had a few restaurant options and they were all small places that were packed out. Our food took a long time to come, but it was good!
