Day 51 - Rest Day #7

Day 51 - Rest day #7

Today was the seventh rest day, because our sixth one was tooling around Mackinac Island. After our 114 mile day yesterday it was nice to be able to sleep in and give the legs a rest.

When in Cleveland it’s a must to go see the Rock n’Roll hall of fame. And by see, I mean the outside and the lobby, it wasn’t really in the budget or interest level to pay to for the full experience. Did you know the phrase Rock n’Roll was coined by a DJ in Cleveland, so that’s why the Hall of Fame is here? We got some pics, saw the big ships docked in the vicinity, and peered into the Browns stadium.

Then we loaded up in the tour bus (aka the van) and headed west to Edgewater Beach. The boys were ready to do some swimming in Lake Erie. Only when we arrived the water was rolling in like an ocean and the red flags on the lifeguard chairs were at full mast. So no swimming or even touching the water (red is serious apparently). Micah C. brought a frisbee so I joined him on the beach area for some tossing, seems it’s only an activity for the over 18 crowd, because it ended being 3 leaders and Micah. A few of us rented scooters for a few minutes to explore the paved paths. I took a 5 min ride and got a great view of the city (no picture because I was driving 😉).

For lunch we did a Chick Fil-A stop for a to-go order and we ate in the van on our way back to the hotel. Back at the hotel some napped, some cleaned bikes, and some chilled. Micah C. and I visited a bike shop for supplies, and then he got to meet his family who were traveling through the area. So far he is winning with the most visitors along the trip route. When I got back to the hotel I grabbed my bike for a cleaning and a tire change. The front tire was showing some wear, so it was best to change it before it exploded or damaged the tube.

After the bike cleaning party, it was time to clean myself up, make some phone calls, and make dinner plans. We hit up Max & Erma’s and it was a hit! Good food and decent prices, plus most of us got warm chocolate chip cookies for dessert as part of our meal. How can you go wrong with that kind of meal ending?

Tomorrow is 87 miles so an early morning start for our ride along Lake Erie!
