Day 49 - Ohio - no sign

Day 49 - Ann Arbor, MI to Oregon, OH - 55 miles - 259 feet of elevation gain

A hotel with a full breakfast is a gift from Heaven these days! When there is no breakfast, or a COVID breakfast with a bar and fruit, it causes so much more work in the mornings. I’m super-dooper thankful for hotels that have a hot meal waiting for us in the morning. This morning we had a later start because we were only biking 55 miles, so it was nice to have some extra sleep!

It was in the mid-60s when we started out this morning, but I could feel the wet tongue from the humidity dog licking my skin all day. Let’s keep this humidity thing under control, because it causes me to sweat something fierce. Tomorrow we will be near Lake Erie so let’s hope it’s a nice wind and brings a cool breeze.

I don’t have many pictures from today because the roads were again filled with cracks, holes, bumps, and everything else from yesterday. I commented that it’s ridiculous that going over railroad tracks, which we did at least 5 times today, was smoother than some of the roads. In my mind infrastructure is the foundation to a good society, let’s pave some roads to an improved America! I did take some pictures of the roads, but not at the really bad parts because I didn't want to drop my phone.

When we rolled into Toledo, you would have thought we were in an event and people were there to cheer us to the finish. Like we haven’t had that kind of reaction from so many people on the streets before today. I thought maybe it was because NO ONE road bikes through those streets so they were like “Wooo, those people are crazy!!” Anyway it was a nice welcome into Ohio, because they surely didn’t put out a welcome sign along the road.

We had lunch behind the hotel on some picnic tables that I thought might be there from the satellite photos, or at least I knew it was shaded in the afternoon from the photos. We will dine in a few minutes, then have devotions, and then rinse and repeat the process tomorrow. I’m hoping for better roads out of here, but so far it was hard to tell from the roads that we entered a new state. Tomorrow is a long one, like 109 miles. I’m hoping for cool weather and smooth roads… sometimes dreams come true!
