The tree is up...

My aunt pointed out the other day that I haven't updated the blog lately. That is mostly because there hasn't been any news to report or stupid stories to tell. Today changed all of that... this post falls in the stupid category.

This afternoon Laura and I went for the annual tree picking ceremony at the local Christmas tree lot. My brother thinks we are wimps since we live in the land of tree farms and won't go cut down our own tree, but I believe that requires more dexterity than I'm capable of. We decided to check out a lot around the corner from the house that for some reason we had bypassed in previous years.

We walked up and down the rows of blue spruce and fir trees. There were some beautiful trees, but none that fell in the budget friendly range without also carrying the "Charlie Brown" look. As we made our way down the last row towards the exit I pulled a Michelle move. There was a tree branch laying on the ground that managed to tangle itself in my feet. I tried desperately to untangle myself while maintaining my balance, but it is just not my style.

The forward motion the branch entanglement caused didn't work well with the gravel base my feet were trying to gain a solid footing on. Somehow in my awesome falling ability, I finally stopped flailing with my back on the ground a good 10 feet from the initial point of impact. Unfortunately the film crew was not capturing footage today, because according to Laura this was one of my best landings to date.

The stupidity didn't stop with the landing, because when Laura tried to help me up she ended up spinning me around and almost falling on top of me. It might be a good thing that there was no one around to witness these antics. Although on our way out of the tree lot two workers stopped us wondering why we were leaving without a tree. I still had tears running down my face from laughing so hard and both of us were giggling. We tried to answer their questions, but really just wanted to run to the car. Laura finally explained why we continued to laugh at every question they asked us. They asked if I was okay and then told me to be careful. Ah yeah, that's my goal every day!

Laura and I made our way to another tree lot and found a great tree in our budget, and we did not have to sacrifice on size. I finished decorating the tree this evening and it looks great. Last year I went to the Pottery Barn Outlet after Christmas and found great ornaments for $.99 each, saving over $80 off the original price and giving me something to look forward to this year. Here are some pictures of the finished product.

Nothing like a fireplace glowing, Christmas decorations sparkling ,and snowflakes glistening outside; I love this season. Oh, yeah, be safe while getting your tree!
