Day 42 - One Road

Day 42 - Wetmore to Newberry, MI - 54 miles - 610 feet of elevation gain

Because we had a “short” ride today, I made the ride start at 10am. This allowed for sleeping in, taking a leisurely breakfast, and I was hoping for a pre-ride game of HORSE. Turns out not everyone could make the 8:30am court time.

It was a one road day. We made a turn at a park for lunch, but otherwise it was a straight shot to the hotel. The park for the lunch stop had a basketball court, so after lunch six of us took to the court for HORSE. I haven’t played ball for a long time, but it was fun to work the arms a little. I lost to an around the leg shot, but I held on to be one of the final two.

The roads today were busy, with a narrow shoulder. Someone thought putting the rumble strips in the shoulder was a good idea, leaving about 18 inches on the other side before it turned to 3 feet of gravel. A better option was when the rumble strip was on the white line about 6 inches wide, leaving the actual shoulder clear for riding. We know many of you are praying for us and our safety, we thank you! One logging truck was in too much of a hurry to slow down or move over, he buzzed us. You can pray that next time he encounters cyclist, he will have a little more compassion and move over. Not many pictures because of the roads, but you can see the difference in the types of shoulders in the pictures I did take.

Tonight we got takeout and sat in a pavilion kind of structure behind the hotel to eat and have devotions. Then we moved the party inside for movie night. Tomorrow is another short riding day so a 9am start time.
