LIFECYCLES ECR ‘23 - Day 5

Southington, CT to Stratford, CT - 50 miles - 700 ft of elevation gain

I continue to be amazed that even after long days of riding, food and sleep are the perfect combination to restore the body for riding more miles. We rolled out of the hotel around 8am and 1 mile from the hotel was a bike path that took us all the way to New Haven, CT. It was a beautiful bike path with shade, smooth pavement, and lovely scenery.

Once in New Haven, we did a bit of cyclocross and carried our bikes up a flight of stairs to the street level for the remainder of the ride along the coast. This coastline is the Long Island Sound and saw many boats and beach goers. We rode to our lunch destination at a beach park which had a very nice pavilion by the water. Some of the boys took advantage of the water, unfortunately the water was a little warm, but still nice to soak in. We then loaded up and rode back to the hotel. Beach swimmers decided to ride back in their swim trunks, because it was only 3 miles to the hotel.

Tonight we ordered food and I picked it up and brought it back to the hotel for a movie night. We watched “When the Game Stands Tall” based on a true story. Tomorrow we get to sleep in and then bike 53 miles to Yonkers.
