Day 61 - Clean Up

Day 61 - Lancaster County - 0 miles on the bike

Do you prefer packing or unpacking? Well, I’d much rather pack for an adventure than unpack my bags. For this adventure, I not only had to unpack my bags (which I haven’t touched), but also the van and trailer.

One would expect that since I went to sleep around midnight that I would be exhausted and wake up later. It was either the internal clock being used to waking up around 6am or the fact that the blinds in my room do not block that morning sun, either way I woke up early. I rolled out of bed around 7:30 and made my way to the kitchen. For those that don’t know, I sold my house in November of 2019 in anticipation of this adventure and a few more that were scheduled for 2020. I moved in with my parents for what was supposed to be a short period. Any way, I live in the lower level, but I’m allowed above ground for food 😉! Eating hotel breakfasts for the last two months, I got used to having breakfast prepared for me. This morning that service wasn’t available! I also realize that my metabolism still expects me to be biking all day, so after my egg and cheese English muffin, it didn’t take long before I was hungry again.

On the docket today was cleaning the van so I could return it to the rental place. Given that we never got to vacuum the van while on the road, it wasn’t too bad. It just took like 2.5 hrs to get it fully cleaned up on the inside. I think I perspired more vacuuming the van than I did on the 105 degree day on the bike. After it was clean on the inside and my belly was full from lunch, I took it to the car wash. One of the owners asked me if I was hauling Amish or kids. I explained what I had used the van for and told him to check out LIFECYCLES. This trip has certainly generated some conversations. Once the van was clean inside and out, I returned it to its home. It served us well for around 8,700 miles of driving. And in case you were wondering, we used close to 1,000 gallons of fuel.

The next project for the day was to clean out the trailer. It’s amazing how much can accumulate over two months. I found about 12 items that belonged to the guys, I guess it could have been more. Now it’s all ready to return to the LIFECYCLES New Holland team.

Tomorrow maybe I’ll get to unpacking my bag and doing laundry. I also need to clean my bike!!
