Day 6 of biking PA to NC
Emporia, VA to Goldsboro, NC - 108 miles - 2508 ft of elevation gain
Thankfully the wind changed directions and today it was coming from the west. This meant that only 68% of my ride had a headwind. It’s amazing how much faster I can go without the wind resistance. My legs felt really good for most of the ride, don’t get me wrong, they definitely feel like they’ve pedaled 505 miles over the last few weeks. Although, if the headwind had been present for more of the ride today, I think the legs would have revolted.
Dogs were the theme of the day! I had 3 dogs try to come at me while I was biking by, but none of them did any damage. Most of the dogs I passed were chained or kept to the yard, but they let me know they saw me with some barking. I also saw a deer, many turtles, and lots of squirrels. I’m loving all of the back roads and changing leaves.
It was a very good day, all things considered. I could do without the wind, and it looks like tomorrow I might get my wish for most of the ride. Only 94 miles to reach the beach and end my ride!
