Argentina Day 5 - Tres Lagunas

Lagunas de los Tres hike

There are two ways to do this hike. You can start from town and hike up to the lagunas and then turn around and hike back the same way. Or, you can take a taxi down a gravel road and get dropped off for a one-way hike back to town, with a little up and back to see the lagoons. We chose the later, with one group doing the lagoon section and one group doing the hike back town and not hiking up to the lagoons.

Breakfast at 6:30am

Taxi at 7am

Started hiking at 7:30am

Distance was estimated as 15 miles (without the lagoon portion the hike is 11.5 miles)

Chose to do a one way hike to the Lagunas de los tres, which required a 17km taxi ride to drop us off. I’ve done a portion of this hike in 2018, but that year I didn’t make it to the 3 lagoons, so I was determined this time to make it.

The 2kms up to the lagoons was steep and icy, but the reward was magnificent! Once at the top I went exploring more and found an amazing blue lagoon. I could have stayed up there longer, but food was calling me down to town.

We returned to the end of the trail by 4:09pm after AJ and I turned on our burners and hoofed it to town. A lemonade and a sit-down was calling my name. Then it was on to the hotel for a HOT shower and icy hot (just to make sure I can move again tomorrow).
